西方民众包括美国人怎样看中国军队？有人将中国1999年阅兵的录像分成几段放到了youtube.com网站上，每一段都已经有数万乃至近十万人观看。在大量中国人的欢呼声中，也夹杂着很多美国人和其他国家人的赞叹。这是一些片段：

非常漂亮！我是个美国人。美国也应该在国庆日举行这样的阅兵。（ Beautiful! The U.S.A. should march like this on our National Holiday's.）

作为一个在中国生活的美国人，我可以告诉你中国人非常友善。在世界上你再也找不到比这好的阅兵行进。中国和美国应该做非常好的伙伴。（as an american living in china, i can tell you chinese people are very kind, this is the best marching seen anywhere, china america should become great allies）

哇塞！中国军队太棒了。景仰！（Wow! Chinese army is awsome. Respect! ）

极为可怕 - 是共产党军力和团结的完美展示。 （Amazingly scary - truly a communist display of military might and mass conformity. ）

是了，所以有肯尼迪的那句名言，只要中国不寻求统治世界，我甘愿看到它上升。 （Oh yes, that famous JFK quote...as long as China does not seek to rule the World, I'm glad China is on the rise. ）

太壮观了！太完美了！太整齐了！这是真正的艺术杰作。从来没见过任何象这样的东西 （Magnificent! Pefection! Perfect alignment! This is truly artistic masterpiece. Never seen anything like it）

说实话，我不喜欢中国人，希望看到他们处处失败。但我得说，这个阅兵展示了了不起的纪律和技能。队列行进完美无缺，绝对地完美。必须说，我印象很深。中国你真有福气.... 杂种 (You know, I really don't like the Chinese and I love to see them fail at at every opportunity, but I will say that this is an amazing display of discipline and skill. 作为过去参加过无数军训的美国海军陆战队老兵，我必须说这个真是完美无缺，令人赏心悦目。没有一人出错步，纵横队列笔直！哇噻！（As a military veteran (USMC) who has done a lot of drill in the past I must say that this is pure perfection and a delight for me to watch! No one is out of step and the cover and alignment are perfect! Wow! ）

我也是一名军人。这个让人惊呆了。不知道该用什么词来形容。（as a member of the armed forces, this is freaking awsome. No words to describe it）

这个队伍给我的印象太深了。我敢打赌没有任何其他国家的军队能作出如此高质量的行进。绝对是高！（I'm so impressed by this disciplined army. I bet no army from other countreis can perform this high quality march as them. They are absolutely great!）

太可怕了。无话可说 （so scarable. no word to say ）

我是欧洲人。必须承认，中国解放军的阅兵行进了不起... (I'm a European and I must admit the Liberation Army of China's march was amazing.. )

没的说，世界第一！解放军，加油！ （Simply the best! Go PLA! ）

中国军队， 世界上最出色的军队之一： 纪律、训练和忍耐力都极其好！ （Chinese armed forces - one of the best in the world.Disciplined, trained and motified extremely well! ）

作为一个国家，我并不欣赏今天的中国，但必须说，这个阅兵式所表现的技能和视觉效果令人十分惊异。他们行进得如此高度一致和对称，如同施了魔法一样。（don't admire China as a country in the present day, but I have to say the skill and visual aspect of this parade is astonishing. They march in such perfect synchronisation and symmetry. It's mesmorising.）

中国军队确实是纪律性非常高，并且有非常严酷的训练。这个阅兵式几乎登峰造极。 （The Chinese Army is truly very disciplined and at the very least harshly trained. Their marching is almost pristine.）

这是那种荣誉和历史铸成的军队！只有真正的铁与血才能打造出象这样的军队。武器很重要，但这支军队即使赤手空拳也难以撼动... (This is the army with honour and history! Only real blood and iron can build an army like this. Weapon is important, but this army even only with bare hands is formidable.... )
